Patrick is Dynamite Inc's Creative Director. He is never satisfied with good enough. He would drive the normal person crazy with his attention to detail.
Why do you enjoy designing?
I come from a family of artist, it's just in my blood. Visual creation is one of the most rewarding aspects of my life. I am just naturally drawn to all things visual. I also admire good package,industrial and architectural design.
What was your first computer?
I actually didn't own a computer until I was in college but I remember going to a friends house when I was a kid who had a Vic 20 and then a Commodore 64. The first computer I owned was when I was in college. It was a Windows PC that my brother built for me. As I got into my design classes I was introduced to Apple computers which I prefer and I bought a Power Mac G4. I usually start a design by sketching with good old pen and paper though. There are too many people getting into graphic design because they think it is cool or glamourous using a computer with design applications and some don't have the artistic ability. The computer is only a very good tool to translate ideas into some form of reality.
Where did you study?
Well my real education for life started when I worked on a farm when I was a teenager. My experiences on the farm got me ready for my time in the Army as a Light Infantryman which was also a real learning experience. My formal education was at St. Johns High School and Central Michigan University where I earned my BAA with a major in Graphic Design with a secondary concentration in Photography and a minor in Media Production, Design and Technology.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy spending time with friends, doing photography and I use to play a little guitar and would like to get back to it. I also enjoy working on mechanical things and working with metal which I want to do more of. I would like to design and build some furniture.
What is your computer setup?
I have a 20" Intel Core Duo iMac with 2GB RAM which I also connect to an extra monitor. I also have a G4 Power Mac (used for a file backup server), 17" HP Pavilion laptop, and an external 200GB hard drive. I use a Canon 10D Digital SLR for photography.
