Why do you enjoy designing?
I have enjoyed drawing, painting, and creating things since I was young. Something inside me finds joy in creating. Designing on the computer provides the challenge of being an artist but confined within certain professional and usability confines.
What was your first computer?
Our family was given an IBM XT when I was 12 years old by my uncle. He also gave me a manual on DOS and BASIC. After learning enough to be dangerous with DOS, I was drawn to the logic in BASIC and the challenge to create my own games. From there, I moved on to C and C++ on a custom-built 386.
Where did you study?
I was home schooled by my parents, which has helped condition me to be self-taught in many things. All of the design and programming knowledge has come from reading, experimenting and real-world experience.
When I was a junior in high school, I studied for and received my Certified Novell Administrator certification.
In 2002, I went to World of Life Bible Institute in up-state New York and completed their one-year Bible program with a 3.9 GPA.
What are your hobbies?
When I am not working on or with computers or spending time with my family, I enjoy playing sports. Mainly basketball... even if I am not the best player around, I enjoy getting the blood pumping and my lungs burning.
What is your computer setup?
My main machine is a 17" MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, and I also have a 12" PowerBook that goes with me everywhere. I also own and work on many servers running Linux (mainly Debian and Slackware distros), Windows, and one OpenBSD.
Do you have a favorite quote?
Not necessarily an absolute favorite, but this one is good...
“He who knows best knows how little he knows” — Thomas Jefferson
